If only you would be slimmer

Sometimes when I look into the mirror,
I catch a glimpse of a beautiful girl;
with high cheek bones and almond slanted eyes,
essence of a beautiful Asian girl.

Some people would say, "Yes you're beautiful!"
While some would also say, "You are cute!"
But when I look at photos, sometimes in people's eyes
The world says, "Only when you are slimmer."

When I was slimmer, the world also said:
"You're beautiful only when you are slimmer. "
When I gained some weight, people will also say:
" You're beautiful only when you are slimmer."

Some books and people will say: "True beauty lies within."
But the unsaid thing is: men want someone slimmer.
And sometimes a voice will ask, "Why haven't you ever been pursued?" The only answer would be, "Cos I was never much slimmer."

One fact that seems established but left unsaid is that:
Part of a woman's worth is how much she is being pursued;
So when one is not she's left to question:
Is there anything wrong with me?

Diet, make-up, dressing up, being cute
Seems to be the thing to be pursued
By all girls and women in order to be
Attractive to be pursued.

Someone told me many years ago that we need to be cute
To be pursued and wanted; but some
Told me that isn't that important but now
An adult told me the same thing

So it's no longer some imaginary thing that "philosophers"  say
But one that lies true to be seen
That we need to dress up and be slim to be beautiful
To be attractive then the bees will come

So occasionally I look into the mirror and see a beautiful one
But when standing next to another, their light then is brighter than mine
Grandma would ask, "Have you found the one?"
I could only answer, "So far, no one."

And it's sad that a major factor of that lies in
The thing that people daren't say
But momma and grandma doesn't hesitate to say:
"if only you would be slimmer. "
