Life's Brief Candle

I've been studying that poem which I tried to help my students revise for their exam. It's true from the poem that life is short like a candle and can be put out any time because the little fire of life is just a flicker and with a little puff of wind, it can be put out instantly. Even if there's no wind to put it out, the candle, the wax will not sustain that long either. In just a short few hours the whole candle will be burnt out.

Today I went for a swim with BlurryNurse again. This time she's driving. Actually found a talisman in her car. Then we went. BlurryNurse isn't really a swimmer. Yes, she can swim. But she lacked confidence and panics if go to too deep waters. But today, out of the blue, she wanted to swim across to the other side through the middle of the pool. So, we went. She went first and I go a lil later, swimming by her to keep watch a little.

We were swimming and all's fine until suddenly she stopped right smack in the middle of the pool where it's deepest. She was struggling all of a sudden and I tried to encourage her to continue swimming but she said she can't, too tired. Then her face started turning rather pale and I know sth is not right. So I tried to help her have a support, something to hold on where she gets to breathe. But the problem is, I don't know life saving and once she push me down to get herself up, I go down. So began the struggle and my hard work to bring her to the side and to survive myself. Then when I thought I can't go on, someone threw a swimming support board towards her. She held on to it and was pulled by the lady to the side and I swam to the nearest end of the pool to rest.

Thank God for everything!

It got me thinking what happens if I died then, what would be my wish then. I wasn't terrified like she was. In my heart was peace still. I wonder whether the same thought came into BlurryNurse's mind. I took the chance to try waking her up to the fact that the end of the world is near and that our lives are very unpredictable that our life, like the candle, can be blown out any time. She's still not ready :\ But I heard that she couldn't sleep the whole night then.

What went through my mind surprisingly and so peacefully are words that is uttered by Jim Elliot to his son when he is going on his journey to the tribal people and his son asked him not to die. He said something like, "It is okay for me to die. But the people should not die because they haven't known Jesus yet." And he would rather die for them but not them die for him. And seriously if I would die if she would come to Christ through that incident, I would. I will be going to heaven anyway and I sure hope that she will know that my life purpose is for her to be saved because I was there to die so she could know how God loves her so much, that her life matter so much.

But to all of you, everyone... churches in Singapore all got this word from the Lord that the end of the world is VERY VERY VERY VERY near. He is calling all Christians and non-Christians to Christ. He is calling all Christians to stand up and reap the harvest! Do not be blinded by the world!

Live for God! Embrace the Holy Spirit! Let Him fill you, overflowing! Let God pour His spirit into you! Stand up people!
